Privacy Policy
This policy explains how CodeRa, a Chrome extension built by Anton Zakharenka, handles your data when you capture screenshots or video frames for AI extraction.
1. Who operates CodeRa
CodeRa is developed and maintained by Anton Zakharenka (“we”, “us”). CodeRa is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or developed by Anthropic.
Contact: anton.zaharenko@gmail.com
2. Data processed when you use the extension
When you click capture or upload an image, CodeRa may process:
- Screenshots or video frames you choose — area selection, video frame capture, or uploaded image files (PNG, JPEG, WebP)
- Visible page content in the captured region — code, text, subtitles, or UI elements shown on screen
- Your selected extraction mode — plain text, code extraction, or understand/trace mode
- Browser UI language — used to return explanations in your locale when applicable
This data is transmitted to Anthropic’s API (Anthropic Privacy Policy) solely to perform the extraction you requested. We do not use this data for advertising or profiling.
3. Data stored locally on your device
CodeRa uses Chrome’s local storage (chrome.storage.local) to save:
- Your preferred extraction mode (text, code, or understand) so the popup remembers your choice
- An optional Anthropic API key, if you choose to provide one in extension settings
This information stays on your device inside Chrome. We do not sync it to a CodeRa backend because CodeRa has no backend database.
4. What we do not collect
- We do not maintain a screenshot library or extraction history on our servers
- We do not require a CodeRa account to use the extension
- We do not sell your personal data
- We do not use third-party analytics or advertising trackers inside the extension
- We do not continuously monitor your browsing activity — processing happens only when you explicitly trigger a capture
5. Chrome permissions explained
CodeRa requests the following permissions for core functionality:
- activeTab — access the current tab when you open the extension and start a capture
- scripting — inject the content script needed for area selection and on-page UI
- clipboardWrite — copy extracted text or code to your clipboard
- storage — save your mode preference and optional API key locally
- Host access (<all_urls>) — run on pages where you choose to extract content (tutorials, docs, course sites, etc.)
- api.anthropic.com — send captured images to Claude Vision for AI processing
6. Third-party services
Anthropic (Claude Vision API)
Image data is sent to Anthropic to generate the extraction result. Anthropic’s handling of that data is governed by their own privacy policy and terms. Please review anthropic.com/privacy.
Website waitlist (optional, separate from the extension)
If you submit your email on the CodeRa landing page waitlist form, that submission is handled by the form provider (FormSubmit) and delivered to the developer’s email inbox. This is separate from normal extension use.
7. Data retention
CodeRa does not retain captured images after processing. Locally stored preferences remain until you clear extension data or uninstall the extension.
Data processed by Anthropic is subject to Anthropic’s retention practices. We do not control how long Anthropic retains API request data.
8. Security
Captures are transmitted over HTTPS to Anthropic’s API. Because CodeRa has no central server, there is no CodeRa-operated cloud storage of your screenshots. You should avoid capturing sensitive credentials, private keys, or confidential information you would not share with an AI service.
9. Children’s privacy
CodeRa is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your choices and rights
- Stop processing — uninstall the extension or simply do not trigger a capture
- Clear local data — remove CodeRa data in Chrome extension settings
- Use your own API key — if supported, you may supply your own Anthropic key instead of a shared one
- Contact us — email privacy questions or deletion requests related to waitlist submissions
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the extension or legal requirements change. The “Effective date” at the top will be revised accordingly. Continued use of CodeRa after an update means you accept the revised policy.
